What does a digital loyalty card cost a small shop in Sweden?

A digital loyalty card in Sweden usually costs a fixed monthly fee, not a fee per customer or per stamp. Fidelia has two fixed-price plans, excluding VAT, and you can try it free first.

A digital loyalty card costs a fixed monthly fee. You don’t pay per customer, per stamp or per reward scanned. With Fidelia, the Essential plan starts at 299 kr a month and the Pro plan costs 599 kr, both excluding VAT. Pay for a full year and you get a lower monthly cost; see the pricing page for the current offer.

The honest question isn’t just what the card costs, but what it costs compared with what you do today. This guide covers what’s included, which hidden costs tend to turn up and how to work out whether it pays off for your shop.

What’s included in the price?

Fidelia has two plans. What separates them is mainly what you can send to your customers.

  • Essential, 299 kr a month. A digital card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, a scanner in the phone for your staff and a lock-screen notice when a reward is waiting. One card per shop.
  • Pro, 599 kr a month. Everything in Essential, plus messages to customers who said yes to news, reminders when the customer is near the shop and the option to have several cards.

The first QR stand is included in the plan. If you want more, for example one at each till, they cost 199 kr each excluding VAT. You can try everything during the free 14-day trial.

Which costs are easy to forget?

When you compare providers, the monthly fee isn’t enough. Ask about:

  • A fee per customer or per card. A price that looks low can grow as the club grows.
  • Setup fee or lock-in period. Some charge for setup or require a one-year contract.
  • Hardware. Does your till staff need a special reader or tablet, or is an ordinary phone enough?
  • Messages. Are messages to customers included, or do you pay per message sent?
  • What happens when you leave. Can you take your customer data with you?

Compare plans that match each other, and always read the provider’s own page, because prices and terms change.

What does a paper card cost instead?

A paper card seems free, but it rarely is. The cost is small per card but shows up in several places:

  • printing and reordering cards,
  • cards that get lost, soaked or never come back,
  • time at the till finding the stamp and digging out the card,
  • no idea who keeps coming back, and no way to reach them.

The last point often weighs the most. With a paper card you don’t know whether a customer has stopped coming. With a digital card you can see it and invite them back. Read more in the guide to replacing paper cards.

How do you work out whether it pays off?

Do it in three steps.

  1. Work out what a returning customer is worth. How often does a regular come in, and what does she leave per visit after cost of goods? That is your gross margin per visit.
  2. Estimate how many extra visits the card brings. Be cautious. Count on a few extra visits a month, not a revolution.
  3. Compare with the monthly fee and the cost of the reward. The real cost of a reward is usually much lower than the menu price; see what a reward really costs.

The numbers are your own, which is why a test beats a guess. With the free trial you can see how many of your customers actually put the card on their phone. The calculator for what a loyalty club is worth helps you do the math.

When is a digital loyalty card not worth it?

It isn’t right for everyone. If you have a handful of regulars you know by name and rarely see new faces, you may not need a system at all. And if you never plan to reward anyone, the card doesn’t do much. A digital card works best when many different customers pass through and you want more of them to become regulars.

Summary

A digital loyalty card costs a fixed monthly fee, and the real costs lie in the reward and in getting customers to use the card. Compare plans that match each other, ask about per-customer fees, and use the free trial to see what the card does for your shop. Questions

Is there an extra cost for each customer who joins the loyalty club?

Not with Fidelia. You pay a fixed monthly fee for the plan, no matter how many customers add the card to their wallet. Other providers may price differently, so always check their own pricing page.

Can I try it before I pay?

Yes, Fidelia has a free 14-day trial. You set up the card, print a QR stand and stamp real customers in the meantime.

Is the QR stand included in the price?

The first stand is included in the plan. Each extra stand costs 199 kr excluding VAT.

Are the prices with or without VAT?

Fidelia prices are shown excluding VAT. A VAT-registered business normally deducts input VAT, but ask your accountant how it applies to you.

How many stamps does it take to cover the cost?

It depends entirely on your margin. Work out what an extra returning customer is worth per month and compare that with the subscription, for example with the calculator for what a loyalty club is worth.
