A digital pizzakort for your pizzeria

Fidelia moves the classic Swedish pizzakort into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet: staff scan it when the order is paid at the counter, and the free pizza unlocks after the number of orders you choose.

By The Fidelia team

Almost every Swedish pizzeria has had a pizzakort by the till: buy ten, get one free. It works because pizza in Sweden is a weekly habit, Friday-night fredagsmys for families and lunch for workers who come for the pizzabuffé or dagens pizza. The problem with the paper version is that it lives in a kitchen drawer, gets lost, and gives you nothing to work with on a quiet Tuesday. The other problem is delivery apps: an order through Foodora, Wolt or Uber Eats costs you a commission. A digital pizzakort rewards the customer for doing the thing that’s best for you, ordering directly and picking up at the counter.

What to reward, and after how many stamps?

Swedish customers expect the free pizza. Keep it, and consider a shorter second reward for new customers.

  • 10A free pizza of your choiceThe pizzakort everyone already knows.
  • 5Free soft drink or dessertA quicker win for occasional customers.
  • 12Free family pizzaFor pizzerias where most orders are for several people.
  • 8Free lunch buffetFor pizzerias with a weekday pizzabuffé.

Example calculation: a vesuvio sells for 120 kr and its ingredients cost around 25 kr. Ten paid pizzas bring in 1,200 kr, so the free one costs about 2 % of that. A kebabpizza with more toppings might cost 35 kr, still around 3 %. These are example figures; check your own food cost.

The card can have between 3 and 30 stamps. If you change it, only new cards follow. Customers in the middle of a card keep the deal they started with.

Which card type fits a pizzeria?

The stamp card (Essential) is the digital pizzakort and covers most pizzerias. The real question is whether you stamp per pizza or per order:

—How it worksGood for
Stamp per orderOne scan per visit, EssentialSimple, fast at the counter
Stamp per pizzaScan again after the cooldown, EssentialClassic pizzakort rule for families
Points per kronaStaff type the amount, ProFair when orders range from 1 to 6 pizzas

Points (Pro) solve the family-order problem: staff type the amount on the scanner’s number pad and the customer gets points per krona spent, with up to six reward levels, say a soft drink at one level and a family pizza at another. On Pro you can also run a second card, for example a lunch card next to the evening pizzakort; the join page lets the customer pick.

How does stamping work during the rush?

The Friday rush starts around 17:00 and runs until well after 20:00. The scan belongs at payment, when the customer pays by card or Swish at the counter, not when the boxes come out of the oven. Keep the scanner, a phone or tablet with a PIN login, on a stand by the card terminal. Staff point it at the customer’s pass and see “+1” and “Ali · 9/10”.

  • Family orders: with per-order stamping, one scan. With per-pizza stamping, the cooldown (5 minutes by default) blocks a second stamp straight away; either lower it in settings or switch to points.
  • Phone orders picked up later: scan at pick-up, when they pay.
  • Delivery: a driver with a staff login can scan at the door from their own phone. Most pizzerias don’t bother and keep the card for counter orders.
  • Wrong scan: the owner or a manager corrects the card in the dashboard with Adjust stamps; the reason and who made the change are logged.
  • Full card: “Claim + add today’s stamp” hands out the free pizza and counts tonight’s order on the next card.

The scanner needs internet. Most pizzerias use the shop Wi-Fi; a phone on mobile data also works.

Seasonal and occasion ideas

  • Every Friday: fredagsmys. The night most families order pizza.
  • Football nights: Allsvenskan, the national team, big European matches. Get orders in before kick-off.
  • Halloween and Melodifestivalen Saturdays: evenings people stay in.
  • Summer: terrace season, and a quieter town in July while locals are away.
  • Nyårsafton: party pizzas pre-ordered for the evening.
  • Weekday lunch: a pizzabuffé reminder to office regulars on a slow Monday.

What to send by push or e-mail

Pizza is an impulse decision, so lock-screen messages (Pro) timed right are strong. Examples:

  • Example · title: “Fredagsmys starts here” · message: “Order at the counter or call us from 16:00. Pick up hot, skip the delivery fee, and get your pizzakort stamp.”
  • Example · title: “Match tonight 19:00” · message: “Call before 18:30 and your pizza is ready before kick-off. Card holders get a free soft drink.”
  • Example · title: “Lunch buffet is back” · message: “Pizzabuffé with salad and coffee, weekdays 11:00 to 14:00. Show your card for a stamp.”

E-mail is for news: a new menu with photos or summer opening hours, sent from your pizzeria’s own address. Fridays are the obvious time to push, but not every Friday; twice a month is plenty. Only customers who opted in to news receive messages.

Common objections

“The paper pizzakort works fine.” It works until it’s lost. When a customer switches, a manager can correct the digital card to carry over their paper stamps with a reason recorded, so nobody loses progress.

“My customers order through apps.” Some always will. The card gives the others a reason to call or walk in instead, where you keep the full price.

“It slows the Friday counter.” The scan is two seconds after payment, with the phone fixed next to the terminal. It’s quicker than finding a paper card and a stamp.

“Teenagers will scan each other’s cards.” The cooldown limits how often one card can be stamped, and every stamp records which staff member, location and device made it.

What does it cost?

Essential costs 299 kr a month for one pizzeria with a stamp card, unlimited customers and scans, the scanner for the whole team and your first counter stand. Questions

Do I stamp per pizza or per order?

That's your rule. Per order is simplest. If you want to stamp per pizza for a family order, staff scan again after the cooldown, or you lower the cooldown, or you use points by amount on Pro.

Can delivery orders get a stamp?

Only if someone scans the customer's pass. A driver logged in as staff can scan at the door with their own phone, but most pizzerias keep the card for pick-up and eat-in orders.

Does it work with Foodora or Uber Eats orders?

No, Fidelia has no delivery-platform integration. That's the point for many pizzerias: the card rewards customers who order at your counter, where you keep the whole margin.
