A digital loyalty card for your flower shop

Fidelia puts your flower shop's stamp card in your customers' Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Staff scan it at payment, whether the customer pays by Swish or card, and regulars earn a free bouquet or extra.

By The Fidelia team

A florist has two kinds of customers: the person who buys a bouquet for a birthday and is never seen again, and the regular who picks up fresh flowers every Friday for the kitchen table. The loyalty card is for the second kind, and for turning the first into the second. In Sweden the peaks are few and sharp, from Alla hjärtans dag to Mors dag and midsommar, so keeping people between the peaks matters.

What to reward, and after how many stamps?

Flowers have a high margin and a visible value, so rewards can be generous without hurting much.

  • 8A free bunch of seasonal flowersTulips in spring, dahlias in late summer. Pick what is cheap that week.
  • 3Free gift wrapping and a cardA cheap and quick first reward for gift buyers.
  • 6A small potted plantA reward for regulars that costs little and lasts.
  • 5A discount-free bouquet upgradeA bigger bunch than they paid for, no price cut shown on the till.

Example calculation: a weekly bouquet sells for 249 kr and costs you about 90 kr in flowers and wrapping. Eight purchases bring in 1,992 kr, and a free bunch with a cost of 90 kr is under 5 % of that. Even at full price it is 12.5 %. These are example figures.

Cards can have between 3 and 30 stamps. Changing the number affects only new cards.

Which card type fits a florist?

The stamp card (Essential) is the base: one stamp per purchase, a free bunch at the end.

On Pro:

  • Pack card. A prepaid set of bouquets, for example for a weekly delivery to a reception desk or a home. The card shows “Not active yet” until staff tap Activate, then staff tap Use 1 per bouquet. You hold the customer’s money in advance, so check prepaid rules with your accountant.
  • Points. Useful if baskets range from a single stem to a funeral arrangement. Staff enter the amount and the customer earns points per krona.

Several cards at once is also a Pro feature, for example a stamp card for everyday flowers and a pack card for the weekly regulars.

How does stamping work at the counter?

Scan when the purchase is paid, whether by Swish, card or cash. The person at the till scans the customer’s pass, and the screen shows “+1” and a first name with progress, for example “Elin · 5/8”. The pass on the phone updates within seconds.

  • Staff: each person logs in with a PIN, and every stamp records who scanned it, on which device and at which location.
  • One stamp per purchase: the cooldown between two stamps is 5 minutes by default, so one customer buying two bouquets in one go does not get two. Change it if you prefer.
  • Mistakes: the owner or a manager corrects the card in the dashboard with Adjust stamps; the reason and who made the change are logged.
  • Reward ready: the pass shows it, and the customer gets a lock-screen notification. Staff tap the claim button and wrap the free bunch.

Seasonal and occasion ideas

  • Alla hjärtans dag (14 February): a queue day. Sign up new customers while they wait.
  • Internationella kvinnodagen (8 March): a growing flower occasion in Sweden.
  • Easter: påskliljor and branches with feathers.
  • Valborg and spring: the start of the season for gardens and balconies.
  • Mors dag (last Sunday of May): one of the biggest days of the year.
  • Student and graduation season (late May to June): bouquets for the studenten.
  • Midsommar: wreaths and flowers for the table.
  • Alla helgons helg (early November) and Advent: candles, arrangements and winter decorations.
  • December: Christmas hyacinths, amaryllis and gifts.

What to send by push or e-mail

Push messages (Pro) show on the lock screen and only reach customers who opted in to news. Keep them to one or two a month and tie them to a real occasion. Examples:

  • Example · title: “Mors dag on Sunday” · message: “Order your bouquet by Friday. Show your card for free gift wrapping.”
  • Example · title: “Tulips are in” · message: “Fresh from this morning’s delivery. Come by before Friday.”
  • Example · title: “One bunch to go” · message: “You are one stamp from a free seasonal bunch.”

E-mail idea: a short note to customers not seen in 30 days, sent from your shop’s own address, with a photo of what is in season. Replies land in an inbox in your dashboard.

Common objections

“My customers buy flowers a few times a year.” Then the card is mostly for your weekly regulars and for gift buyers who return each Mors dag. A short card and an occasion reminder on Pro help.

“I already take Swish and card.” Keep them. The card sits next to payment, and the scan is a separate step.

“I’m alone in the shop.” One scan with a phone on a stand, a couple of seconds at payment. Customers join on their own by scanning the QR stand.

“Customers won’t download an app.” They don’t have to. The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or opens as a web card if they have neither.

What does it cost?

Essential costs 299 kr a month excl. VAT: one location, one stamp card, unlimited customers and scans, the scanner for your whole team and your first QR stand. Pro, at 599 kr a month, adds pack cards, push messages, e-mails and several cards at once, with a 14-day free trial.

Questions

Does it work with Swish and Zettle?

It works next to them, not inside them. The customer pays by Swish, card or cash as usual, and the scan is a separate two-second step on your phone or tablet.

How many stamps should a florist's card have?

Flowers are bought less often than coffee, so many shops start with 5 to 8 stamps. You can set anything from 3 to 30, and changes only affect new cards.

Can I remind customers before Mother's Day or Alla hjärtans dag?

Yes, with push messages on Pro (599 kr a month): a short text on the lock screen, sent now or scheduled ahead, only to customers who opted in to news.

Can I sell a prepaid bouquet pack?

Yes, with a pack card on Pro. The customer pays, staff tap Activate, then Use 1 per bouquet. You hold the money in advance, so check prepaid rules with your accountant.
