Fidelia vs building your own loyalty app

Your own app costs at least two developer accounts before you have written a line of code, and customers must download it. Fidelia costs from 299 kr a month, with a Wallet card the customer adds by scanning a QR code, and no app to build or install.

Short answer: an own app gives you full control, and you pay for it with store fees, development, upkeep and the effort of getting every customer to install it. Fidelia is a ready-made loyalty card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet from 299 kr a month. Build an app if loyalty is only part of something bigger, like ordering or booking; choose Fidelia if you want loyalty running this week.

How do they compare?

Fidelia prices per month excluding VAT, as published on 25 October 2026. We give no build cost for an own app: it depends on who builds it and what it should do.

Where is Fidelia stronger?

  • Nothing to build. Choose a reward, upload your logo and the card is running the same day.
  • No download barrier. One scan at the till puts the card in the Wallet, where it shows on the lock screen when you send a push in Pro.
  • No store accounts. You skip the developer accounts at Apple and Google and the review on every update.
  • No upkeep. New phone versions and Wallet changes are Fidelia’s job.
  • Predictable cost. 299 kr or 599 kr a month, no set-up fee, unlimited customers and scans.
  • Built-in loyalty rules. Stamps, redemptions and corrections go through one consistent system, and staff scan at the till with no link to the till system, Swish or Zettle.
  • The QR stand is included. Your first A5 stand is delivered with the card.

Where is an own app stronger?

  • Full control. Every screen, feature and data field is yours.
  • More than loyalty. Ordering, booking, menus or anything else you want in one place.
  • Your brand in the app store. Your own icon on the customer’s home screen.
  • No dependence on a supplier for the product roadmap.

Who should build an own app?

A chain or business with an existing digital product, a development budget and a team to maintain it, where loyalty is a feature in a larger customer experience. Even then, a Wallet card can run alongside, as an easy first step for customers who don’t want to install anything.

Who should choose Fidelia?

Fidelia suits independent shops, cafés and salons that want customers back now, without a project. Stamping needs internet. See the pricing page for all plans.

How do you start without building anything?

  1. Create your Fidelia card with your reward, colours and logo, and start the trial of 14 days of Pro.
  2. Put the QR stand by the till and ask at payment: “Would you like our card on your phone?”
  3. See what customers respond to: rewards, push messages, offers for quiet days.
  4. Decide later whether an own app is still needed, with real customer data behind the decision.

Questions

What does it cost to publish your own app?

Apple states 99 USD per membership year for the Apple Developer Program, and the price may vary between regions. Google Play states a one-time registration fee of 25 USD. That is only the store accounts: design, development, running costs and updates come on top, and we give no figure for them.

Will my customers download the app?

That is the hard part of every shop app: each customer has to find it in an app store, install it and log in. Fidelia's card is added by scanning a QR code at the till, and it opens from the Wallet.

Can your own app do things Fidelia cannot?

Yes. An own app can include ordering, booking or anything you design. Fidelia is a loyalty card: stamps, points, cashback, prepaid cards, memberships, push and e-mail, not a general app.

Who maintains an own app?

You, or your developer. Apple and Google update their systems and the app has to keep up. With Fidelia, the card and scanner are handled for you.

Can I start with Fidelia and build an app later?

Yes. Many start with a card to learn what customers respond to. Your customer list can be exported as CSV in Pro.
