A digital loyalty card for your food truck

Fidelia gives your food truck a stamp card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Customers join by scanning the QR stand on your counter, and you scan their card on a phone at payment.

By The Fidelia team

A food truck has no shopfront, no street number and often no fixed timetable. Its regulars find it by following it: a lunch spot on Tuesdays, a market on Saturdays, a festival in July. A loyalty card in the customer’s phone travels with the truck, and a message to the lock screen can tell people where you are today.

What to reward, and after how many stamps?

Food trucks have a high food cost compared with a café, but a short menu with a known cost per portion makes rewards easy to calculate.

  • 5A free side of fries or a drinkA low-cost first reward that gets people back within a week or two.
  • 10A free main of the dayThe big goal for lunch regulars.
  • 4Upgrade to a large portionCosts you a little extra food, and feels like a bonus.
  • 15Truck merch: cap or tote bagFor the fans who follow you to every market.

Example calculation: a lunch regular spends around 130 kr per visit. Ten visits bring in 1,300 kr, and a free main with a food cost of about 45 kr is under 4 % of that. These are example figures. Use your own prices.

Cards can have between 3 and 30 stamps. Changing the number affects only new cards.

How do customers join when you move around?

The QR stand is a clear acrylic A5 stand with your shop’s QR code. Put it on the counter, next to the hatch or on the menu board. Customers scan it with their phone camera, enter a first name and an e-mail address, and add the card to their Wallet. No app is needed. Your first stand is included in your plan.

The card is not tied to a place, so the same QR stand and the same card work at every location. If you want to give regulars the day’s spot, send a push message.

Which card type fits a food truck?

The stamp card (Essential) is the right base: one stamp per order, a free item at the end.

On Pro:

  • Push messages. The most useful feature for a truck. Tell your regulars where you are, when you are sold out and when a market is on.
  • Pack card. A prepaid set of lunches, for example for a nearby office. The card shows “Not active yet” until staff tap Activate, then staff tap Use 1 per portion. You hold the money in advance, so check prepaid rules with your accountant.
  • VIP levels. A stamgäst level for your most regular customers, with a perk such as skipping the queue at a festival.

How does stamping work in the lunch rush?

Scan when the order is paid, by Swish or card. The scanner shows “+1” and a first name with progress, for example “Johan · 3/10”. The pass on the phone updates within seconds.

  • Phone on the counter: whoever is serving can scan. Each person logs in with a PIN, and every stamp records who scanned it and where.
  • One stamp per order: the cooldown is 5 minutes by default, so a person who orders for the whole group does not get several stamps. Change it if you prefer.
  • Mistakes: the owner or a manager corrects the card in the dashboard with Adjust stamps; the reason and who made the change are logged.
  • Reward ready: the pass shows it, and the customer gets a lock-screen notification. Staff tap the claim button and add the free item to the order.

The scanner needs internet. Use a good mobile data plan or a hotspot, and check the signal at festival sites, where networks are often crowded.

Seasonal and occasion ideas

  • Spring and Valborg: the start of the outdoor season. Announce where you will be.
  • Markets and festivals (May to September): a message the day before, to tell people where to find you.
  • Midsommar and summer weekends: crowds and tourists; a short card works well with passers-by.
  • Lunch season for offices (autumn): regular spots and times matter most.
  • Winter: if you run all year, a hot-food reminder on cold days.
  • Company events and weddings: a catering job can also bring new cardholders.

What to send by push or e-mail

Push messages (Pro) show on the lock screen and only reach customers who opted in to news. Send only when there is something to say. Examples:

  • Example · title: “We are at the harbour today” · message: “11:00 to 15:00. New smash burger on the menu.”
  • Example · title: “Saturday market” · message: “Find us by the church from 10:00. Show your card for a free drink at 5 stamps.”
  • Example · title: “One order to go” · message: “You are one stamp from a free main.”

E-mail idea: a weekly or monthly timetable of where the truck will be, sent from your own address. Replies land in an inbox in your dashboard.

Common objections

“I move every day, so a card won’t work.” The card travels with the customer, not with a place. The QR stand and the scanner work wherever you park.

“I have no time to scan during the rush.” It is one scan per customer, a couple of seconds, with the phone fixed on the counter. The joining happens at the stand.

“The signal is poor at some sites.” The scanner needs a connection to register a stamp, so plan for a good data plan or a hotspot at those sites.

“I only take Swish.” That is fine. The card sits next to payment, so it works with Swish, card or cash.

What does it cost?

Essential costs 299 kr a month excl. VAT: one location, one stamp card, unlimited customers and scans, the scanner for your whole team and your first QR stand. Pro, at 599 kr a month, adds push messages, e-mails, pack cards, VIP levels and several cards at once, with a 14-day free trial.

Questions

Can I tell regulars where the truck is today?

Yes, with push messages on Pro (599 kr a month): a title and a short text on the lock screen, sent now or scheduled ahead, only to customers who opted in to news.

Does it work without a fixed address?

Yes. The card is not tied to a place. The QR stand works on any counter, and staff scan on a phone wherever you are, as long as you have a mobile connection.

What do I need on the truck?

A smartphone or tablet with the scanner open, a mobile data connection and your QR stand. The first stand is included in your plan. Staff log in with a PIN.

Does it work with Swish and Zettle?

It works next to them. The customer pays by Swish or card as usual, and the scan is a separate two-second step.

Your first stamp, tomorrow morning.
