A food truck has regulars, but they have to find you first. Monday you are at the office park, Thursday at the market, Saturday at a festival. A paper stamp card gets lost between those spots, and an app is too much to ask at a window with a queue behind the customer. A card in the phone’s wallet, joined by scanning one sign on the hatch, goes wherever the truck goes.
What to reward, and after how many stamps?
Truck menus are short and portions are fixed, so rewards are easy to price.
- 6Free portion of fries or a sideCheap for you, feels generous at the window.
- 10Free main of the dayThe classic: your burger, wrap or bowl.
- 5Free drink or dessert with a mainAn early win for people who find you once a week.
- 3Free sauce or topping upgradeA quick first reward to bring new customers back.
Example calculation: a main sells for €12 and costs you about €4 in ingredients and packaging. Ten visits bring in €120, so the free main costs you around 3 % of what the customer spent, or 10 % if you count the full price. These are example figures. Because your customers may only see you every week or two, lean towards shorter cards, 6 to 8 stamps, so the reward feels reachable.
Cards can have between 3 and 30 stamps, and changing the number affects only new cards.
How does the QR stand work on a truck?
Your first QR stand is included in Essential. It is a printed sign with the join code: stick it on the hatch or the counter at eye height. A customer waiting in line scans it with the phone camera, types a first name and an e-mail, and adds the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Nobody on your side fills in anything.
Because the sign is attached to your business and not to a street, you can use the same one at every market. Put it where the queue stands, not at the pick-up end where people have their hands full.
How does stamping work at the window?
Scan when the order is paid. The person at the window scans the customer’s pass with the scanner phone, the screen shows “+1” and a first name with progress, and the pass updates within seconds.
- One phone, several people: each team member logs in with a PIN, and every stamp records who scanned it.
- Queue-friendly: the scan is one move while the customer taps their payment card.
- Mistakes: the owner or a manager corrects the card in the dashboard with Adjust stamps; the reason and who made the change are logged.
- Reward ready: the pass shows it, and the customer gets a lock-screen notification. At the window, tap the claim button and hand over the portion.
Seasonal and occasion ideas
- Market days and weekly spots: your regulars follow a rhythm. Remind them where you are that day.
- Festival and event season (summer): new faces by the hundred. A QR stand on the hatch turns one-off visitors into customers you can reach again.
- Christmas markets: a busy short season. Stamp new cards on day one so there is time to earn the reward before the market closes.
- Autumn and winter: warm dishes and fewer spots. A push about where you are keeps regulars from losing track of you.
What to send by push or e-mail
Push messages (Pro) appear on the lock screen and only reach customers who opted in to news. For a truck, the most useful message is simply where you are. Examples:
- Example · title: “Parked at the market today” · message: “We are at the square until 14:00. Show your card for a free sauce upgrade.”
- Example · title: “New dish this week” · message: “Spicy chicken wrap, from Thursday at the office park.”
- Example · title: “Your free main is waiting” · message: “You have a full card. Come by whenever you see us.”
E-mail works for a weekly “where to find us” schedule, sent from your own address. Keep it to what is useful: a few messages a month are enough.
Common objections
“My customers are there once and gone.” That is exactly why the card matters: joining takes seconds while they wait, and it is the only way to reach them again without social media.
“I’m too busy at the window.” Scan when payment is done, one move with the phone. The customer joins on their own by scanning the sign.
“I don’t have a fixed address.” The card is not tied to one. It works at every spot you park.
“Will people download an app?” They don’t have to. The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or opens as a web card if they have neither.
What does it cost?
Essential costs €29 a month excl. VAT: one location, one stamp card, unlimited customers and scans, the scanner for your whole team and your first QR stand. Pro, at €59 a month, adds push messages, e-mails and several cards at once, with a 14-day free trial.
If you also run a fixed counter, see the restaurant page or the café page.
