What is a push notification on a Wallet card?

A push notification is a short message that appears on a phone's lock screen without the customer opening anything. On a Wallet loyalty card it appears when the card changes (a stamp, a reward ready) or when the shop sends news, with no app needed.

How do notifications work on a Wallet card?

  • Apple Wallet: the shop’s server tells the iPhone that the pass changed; the iPhone downloads the new version and, if the changed field carries a message, shows it on the lock screen. Customers can switch notifications off for any single pass.
  • Google Wallet: the shop adds a message to the card and asks Google to notify. Google allows at most 3 notifications per card in 24 hours, card updates included, and the customer needs Google Wallet notifications switched on.

Why does it matter for a shop?

A message on the lock screen is seen far more reliably than an e-mail in a busy inbox, and it costs nothing per message. Used sparingly, for a quiet afternoon or a new seasonal product, it brings customers back. Sent too often, it gets switched off.

How does Fidelia handle it?

Every Fidelia card notifies customers when a reward is ready. With Pro, you can also write your own messages: a title and text per language, sent now or scheduled, to all customers, those with a reward waiting, or those not seen in 30 days. Campaigns only go to customers who ticked the optional news box when they joined (opt-in), and Fidelia warns you before a send would exceed Google’s limit.
