Loyalty with Bancontact customers works like this: a digital loyalty card works alongside the payment, not inside it. Whether your customer pays by Bancontact, by Payconiq or in cash, your team scans their card at the time of purchase and the stamp is added. Fidelia does not read card payments and receives no bank data.
This separation has concrete advantages: no change of terminal, no link to your bank and a card that works for all your customers. Here is how it goes at the counter.
How is the card used at the moment of payment?
Payment and loyalty are two separate actions, one after the other:
- The customer pays as usual, by Bancontact, Payconiq, cash or otherwise.
- They show their loyalty card, which is in their phone (Apple Wallet or Google Wallet).
- Your team scans it with the Fidelia scanner on a phone. A big “+1” confirms the stamp.
Your payment terminal, your cash register and your bank are not involved. For more details, see the pricing and the digital loyalty card guide.
What does Fidelia know about the purchase?
Only what your team records by scanning: that a visit took place, when, by whom and where. Fidelia knows neither the amount paid, nor the payment method, nor the customer’s bank card number. That’s a choice: loyalty stays simple and your customers don’t have to share bank details.
What are the advantages of separating payment and loyalty?
- All your customers are included. Those who pay in cash as well as those who pay with their phone.
- No hardware change. You keep the terminal you have.
- Less sensitive data. No bank card number to protect: see the digital loyalty card guide.
- You can change bank or terminal without touching your program.
If your payment provider itself offers loyalty features, ask them: this article doesn’t describe them. Compare what suits you, keeping in mind your customers, your team and what you want to measure.
How do you do it in practice at the counter?
The habit to build is simple: payment first, card second, or the other way round, as long as it’s always the same order. A few tips:
- One team gesture, always the same. “Do you have the card?” just before or just after payment.
- A sign near the terminal with a QR code for customers who don’t have the card yet. See the pricing for what is included, including the QR stand.
- One stamp per purchase. A pause of a few minutes between two stamps prevents double scans.
What about customers without a smartphone?
A paper card remains possible for them. The two can coexist during the transition: see the digital loyalty card guide.
In summary
Loyalty and payment stay separate: your team scans the card, whatever the payment method, and Fidelia does not read card payments. You keep your terminal and your customers keep their bank details to themselves. Plan prices are on the pricing page.
